Whatever your reason, sometimes you will just want to access a web site that your bosss network-level internet filtering software has blocked. It might be that you are taking your lunch break in your office and want to access Facebook while youre off the clock. You might want to access your emails without your boss knowing what you are up to. Sometimes, we just want privacy whilst browsing the internet. This is where proxy web sites for work come in.
I should probably start by warning that using proxy websites can get you into a bit of trouble. Your boss might block the proxy websites themselves, or you might even face disciplinary action for using them. In addition, when using proxy web sites, everything you do may be recorded by the owners of the proxy web site, so if you are entering sensitive information such as email account or Facebook usernames and passwords, it might be a good idea to go without the proxy web site and just wait until you get home.
A proxy server acts as an intermediary between you and the site you wish to connect to. Instead of establishing a direct link to the web site you want to access, your computer connects to the servers of the proxy web site, which in turn connects to the server of the web site you wish to access. Finally, the proxy web site relays the information gleaned from this connection back to you. In this way, the server is acting as the proxy – hence the name, proxy server. To find one of these web sites, simply search for one in your favourite search engine.
